History of Weekly Rankings

Victory Points

Players are ranked by points in the following fashion:
- Three points for a win.
- One point for a loss.
- Draws are not applicable, (The ranking system can not handle it). If the game can not be finished, highest honour, total provinces destroyed and rings out wins, as per the old system. (1 point per honour, 10 points per province killed and 8 points per ring in play). If necessary decide randomly who wins.

- Three points for each week you attend

- Plus One point for defeating an sworn enemy in battle.

(A sworn enemy who has captured a personality from your clan that is either a unique or experienced. Captured is defined as any player who has a copy in their pool).
- Plus one point for aiding any ally. (An ally is a player whom you have traded a unique or experienced personality too). This is a multi-player option.

- One point for challenging a player who refuses to play for no good reason.

- Minus one point of refusing a challenge without good reason

- Minus one point for attacking an ally without good reason.

- If multiple players are playing the same clan, they are considered to be allies. If one attacks/challenges the attacker looses a point, and an additional point, unless there is  good reason. (EG - Clan has been corrupted by SL and must be cleansed, in which case you would score a bonus point for succeeding).

- Attacking any player because they are corrupt never results in points loss, even if they were allies.

Multi-Player Variant:

All standard victory points are doubled.

Teams can only be made up of allies or player who are sworn enemies of either or both the opposing team members.

Victory condition for multi-player games can be achieved as follows:

   1.   Eliminate all provinces for both players.

   2.   A team has a total of 80 points of honour. (SL honour is considered zero for this tally).

   3.   Any one player gets all five rings into play.

Report May 10th, 2006 from Joe

The league kicked off with 8 players. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Format. Many of the players had never even seen cards from these early expansions and were very excited to be able to play with them.

We have had some interesting developments thus far. No clan has two representatives. The Lion player seems to have recruited 3 clan champions or equivalents. One Lion, one Crab and one Brotherhood?

The clans actually represented do not include all the major clans, although many of the minor clans were. We have: Brotherhood (Monk), Crane, Lion, Naga, Phoenix, Shadowland, Unicorn and Yorotimo Alliance (Mantis). (Of the available clans, Crab, Dragon, Scorpion and Toturi's Army, are not being represented).

You can tell it is early days in the empire. An enlightenment victory is not possible. Not only does no clan even possess the five rings, but to date, all five rings do not even exist in the Empire.

Some interesting developments thus far. Lion and Crane formed an alliance. Within a few hours, Lion promptly broke the alliance and attacked the Crane, but were duelled into little pieces. Crane in the meantime have taken an prominent Unicorn Battle Maiden causing the Unicorn to declare them mortal enemies. the Unicorn immediately attacked, but in their haste fell. They then regrouped and attacked again sometime later, claiming a small victory but not freeing their comrade in arms.

Report May 11th, 2006 from Ookami

I saw very few of the Toturi's Army  peeps from any booster that came near me, otherwise I would have grabbed them. Not to mention Lions, though I admit to grabbing two Matsu Goemons. That was the sum total of Toturi's Army or Lion that I could get from the Jade Boosters.
(Editorial note: The draft also reflects the availability of resources as well as who the resources go to).

Report May 31st, 2006 from Joe

Minimum 30/30 with no recycling was introduced this week, resulting in some change of tactics. Players were also allowed to including one ring per week they had been in the league so that ring victories would be possible. Crane and Lion formed an alliance as did Crane and Unicorn. (Yes, Unicorn returned and Toturi's Army has taken a back seat). Crane promptly broke the alliance with Unicorn and attack them with their other ally, Lion. Toturi's Army was assisted by Yorotimo. (Just like Crane!). The multi-player games were popular with lots of interaction, both sides winning one game apiece. Brotherhood has finally gotten the five rings and is on it way to enlightenment. Lion and Crane formed an alliance and attacked Yoritomo and Unicorn. The results were non-decisive with each team winning one confrontation each. Unexpected allies turned the tide!. Lion then broke their alliance (presumably in frustration) and teamed up with the Brotherhood to attack Crane, who promptly teamed up with Unicorn. Thus far, only three rings have made it in play in one game.

Report June 7th, 2006 from Joe

With the first storyline arc almost complete, my undefeated record was shot down by Ookami's Unicorns, as the Monks slowly progress toward enlightenment instead of military. The rematch, saw 4 rings come out.

Report August 4th, 2006 from Joe

With the addition of starters last week instead of boosters, all the deck have upgraded dramatically. This week, we have introduced the old style Imperial Favour. We haven't been uing the favour until now. (Arc 3, week 2).

Report August 9th, 2006 from Joe

Scorpion return and build their forces. Unicorn transforms into Toturi's Army. A second Lion faction springs from the Void and quickly establishes itself.

Report August 22nd, 2006 from Joe

The third arc has finished. We have added another Lion player. Naga wins the third arc, with Daniel taking tops honours, followed closely by Richard with Naga. Although Richard come in second, he had an impressive 100% win rate.

Report August 29th, 2006 from Joe

We have just begun the forth story arc (Diamond). We are now using the wind favour. This will be the final arc in this league season. We will probably have a break before beginning another L5R league.

Report September 13th, 2006 from Joe

We have reached the stage where players decks are pretty much set. Drafting now usually has little effect. For this reason, and since week 4 will be the final week of the league, there will be no drafting on week 4.

Report September 19th, 2006 from Joe

Ookami has now played with his third different stronghold faction. The greatest number of any other player. He has played Unicorn, Toturi's Army and now Dragon!

All players are welcome to write their own 'accounts' of battle, treaties and glory.
