L5R League Rules The L5R league is a way to retell the storyline and create a level playing for all players.
Introduction
The Golden Rules
General Tournament Rules
What is expected of me? To show up and have fun. The League is not just about playing cards, but also diplomacy and interaction. Victory points are gained by regular attendance, making allies and fighting with them and defeating your sworn enemies (whom can change on a weekly basis).
Tournament
Format The league is a progressive storyline re-enactment, with card pools reflecting the original storyline arc (where possible). The format of the tournament is sealed deck draft. You may challenge players at any time, anywhere, not just in store.
Initial Set Up
When each player joins the league, they will get a draft pack and four boosters ($12.00). Players will divide into group and then draft each booster pack. (If you join after the first week, you don't draft your packs). For the first four weeks of the tournament, maximum card restriction for non-uniques are waved. After the first week, players will get 2 boosters at $4.00 to draft weekly. If you miss a week, you will not be able to get the boosters you missed out on.
Note: the Draft stronghold will not be legal. Each player may bring any legal stronghold from pre-Jade. (Any stronghold that appeared in Imperial, Emerald, Obsidian, Anvil of Despair, Crimson and Jade and time of the Void.) Each player may also add three copies of their clan holding from their own collection and a set of Lotus winds. These are the only cards that may be added from outside the league draft pool. Players may change their stronghold to any other legal stronghold (even another clan) at any time and may likewise substitute the applicable three copies of their new clan holdings. (These are swapped, not added).
After the draft, player may trade cards from their own pool on a one-to-one basis. (Rarity is irrelevant). Trading is optional, but this diplomatic action can result in allies being formed or sworn enemies being created. (see below).
The minimum deck size is 20/20. (this will be upgraded further down the arc). All cards are recycled when the deck runs out, except for events. The minimum deck size will be 30/30 after the first month. Due to public demand, the deck size will go to 30/30 from the third week (aka May 30th). From the second storyline arc, decks will be a minimum 40/40 with all standard card restrictions. Winds will not be in use for the first storyline arc. They will be available for the second storyline arc. The favour is only available at this time for actions that require the favour to be possessed or discarded. All of your extra cards are interchangeable with your deck between rounds of the event. All cards are to be recorded and available for view by any player.
You may challenge each league player (1 on 1) or each team 2 on 2) up to twice per week each.
The strongholds may be updated in the next storyline arc
from the applicable sets.
Victory Points
- Three points for each week you attend
- Plus One point for defeating an sworn enemy in battle.
(A sworn enemy who has captured a
personality from your clan that is either a unique or experienced. Captured is
defined as any player who has a copy in their pool). - One point for challenging a player who refuses to play
for no good reason.
- Minus one point of refusing a challenge without good
reason
- Minus one point for attacking an ally without good
reason.
- If multiple players are playing the same clan, they are
considered to be allies. If one attacks/challenges the attacker looses a
point, and an additional point, unless there is good reason. (EG - Clan
has been corrupted by SL and must be cleansed, in which case you would score a
bonus point for succeeding).
- Attacking any player because they are corrupt never
results in points loss, even if they were allies.
Multi-Player Variant:
All standard victory points are doubled.
Teams can only be made up of allies or player who are
sworn enemies of either or both the opposing team members.
Victory condition for multi-player games can be achieved
as follows:
1. Eliminate all provinces for
both players.
2. A team has a total of 80
points of honour. (SL honour is considered zero for this tally).
3. Any one player gets all five
rings into play.
Time Limits None.
New Releases (as currently scheduled) As each storyline arc progresses (every month), new cards will be added to the pool from the next arc. The first arc (due to stock restrictions) will be Jade, SCC and Hidden Emperor. The second arc will be Jade Jade, Ambitions Debt, Fire and Shadow, Honour Bound?), the third will be Pearl (Jade, A Perfect Cut, An Oni's Fury, plus?), the fourth will be Gold (Gold, Dark Allies, Heaven and Earth) and the fifth and final storyline arc will be Diamond (Diamond, Hidden city, Web of Lies, Wrath of the emperor and Heaven and Earth).

Sideboards
All cards you have drafted thus far are considered your sideboard. You may change cards between rounds and have 10 minutes to alter your deck after being challenged. (This is a storyline, you know who you are going to fight and can tailor your deck). You may even change your faction, but you must stick with the same faction for the entire week.
