Brisbane 2011 Kotei Report Top Dragon
Top Dragon
This will be a rather quick report dur to my current time restraints. I had decided to go back to my LSC deck (after some modifications) for Brisbane. It had been doing well in Melbourne, despite locla players meta'ing against honour.
Clan Breakdowns as follows:
4
Crab
2
Crane
2
Dragon
0
Lion
1
Mantis
3
Phoenix
4
Scorpion
2
Spider
3
Unicorn
Round 1 – Jon Meertens (Melbourne, Team Vic) Spider - Finger of Bone
Bummer. My first
opponent is another member of Team Vic. I get a good start with gold and a
dude. Things just roll for me from there. My turn six I am on 36 honour with 4
provinces still. He has 8 peeps. I cross with 42 honour qand 3 provinces the
next turn. He has 12 peeps, splits his forces into three and attacks. I defend
two with a single pep, just to be safe. The first opposed battle, I
courtesy myself and one of his home. He no longer has enough to take the
province. he wants to continue (I know his game now). The second opposed battle,
I settle myself home, to prevent A Game of Sincerity (which was what would have
come to drop my honour). Then Jon concedes.
Win.
1 W – 0 L
Round 2 – Nathan Wolly (Gold Coast, QLD) - Phoenix - City of Tears
I get a good start
with gold and peep. By turn 4 he gets Shungeja with spells and the Guardian
follower, whom I can not send home. He has 16 F and take a province. I get
to 28 honour with 2 provinces. Although I loose peeps while defending, I manage
to hold him off . 30 honour with 1 province, ouch, spells hurt. (I really need a
Peaceful Rescource). I get to 39 and he attacks with 2 units of 20+ F. It's just
too
big.
Lose
1 W – 1 L
Round 3 – Ben
Szymkow (Melbourne, Team Vic) Scorpion - Fortress of Blackest light
Another Team Vic
opponent, Ben is a new Melbourne player. Start is OK, just gold. He gets and
early province kill due to 2 Determined FOrces. After 4 turns, he has all 3
flawless assassins on the board. I defend an attack, he kills my dude but I hold
on;. My card draw at this time, is good, which helps. I hold off more attacks
and get to 40 honour when I flip Holy Site with 3 provinces still in hand. He
concedes.
Win
2 W - 1 L
Round 4 – Michael Hill (Beisbane, QLD) Mantis - Dragon City Guard
I need to double
mulligan, not a good start. He gets War of Dark Fire, which I can't cancel. He
attacks early and gets a province. I finally edge up to 39 honour (yes WoDF
hurt), but I can't stop 28 F attacking my last province, because he kills all my
peeps before i can utilize my hand (which had enough to save me). Loss
2 W – 2 L
Round 5 – Andrew Doyle (Brisbane) Crab - Sahttered Peaks Castle
Andrew is a new
player, only been in the game for 3 months. I need to mulligan, butget gold and
a dude. I reshuffle his Celestial. I defend a few battles and survive, hitting
41 honour. He attacks all 4 provinces, but only take 2, whicle I defend and save
the other
two.
Win
3 W – 1 L
Round 6 – Bradly
Webb (Melbourne, Team Vic) - Phoenix - Circle of Tears
Including me, there
are five Team Vic player here and I have been paired against 75% of them. Since
we only got 22 players, cut is top 4. I am sure one 4-2 will make top four, so
winning ill still give me a chance to get into the finals, but countback could
be a problem. Brad mulligans and get 2 Fudo holdings. He Last One's
on Turn 3 after generating some tokens, with Isawa Shioki to get to 7 F. He
pumps with spells. I stiffle his attack, but loose a dude. He keeps attacking
and I keep holdinh him off, while loosing peeps. Shaiko save me as she kills off
his spells. I honour out at 45 and flip Holy Site. Game over.
Win.
4 W – 1 L
I finish 7th
overall (lower end of the 4-2, so I miss out on the finals).
The top four are
Wayne D (Crane dishonour), Justin Lee (SC Ninja), Jason (Spider) and Michael Holl (Mantis).
Wayne defeats Muchael
Jason defeats Justin
Wayne plays Jason in the final. Wayne is 'kicking Arse' and has Jason almost out the backdoor by turn 4 and then concedes, as he is really a Scorpion player and doesn't want Crane to get the victory.
Crane got the honour
event.
